DCEC Cummins Diesel engines have thehighest thermal efficiency (engine efficiency)among any actual internal combustion engineor internal combustion engine, due to their veryhigh expansion ratio and inherent leancombustion. Compared with two-stroke nondirect injection gasoline engines, it also avoidssmall efficiency losses because unburned fueldoes not exist at valve overlap, so there is nofuel directly entering the exhaust from theintake/injection. The thermal efficiency of low-speed diesel engines (used in applicationswhere the total weight of ships and otherengines is relatively unimportant) can exceed50%.
